What to wear to the Races

Call us dramatic, but nothing quite compares to the famous Cheltenham Roar! This exhilarating event is always at the top of our events calendar, and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the season.

As far as racing events go, the Cheltenham Festival is the crème de le crème of jump racing, with The Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood taking the lead in flat racing.

With this in mind, we have curated a race day style guide that we hope will take the guessing work out of your outfits this year. So, grab a glass of champagne or a pint of Guinness (keeping on theme), get comfortable and let us guide you through our top fashion picks for this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

This year, we did not just want to bring out a product that is suitable for the Cheltenham Festival, we wanted to create a product that was made to be worn at this world renown event. If you have not already seen it, we would like to introduce a newcomer to our Spring/Summer 2023 collection – The Sienna Cape. There is no surprise then that this product has only just launched, just in time for the Festival.

The Sienna cape is the perfect addition to your race day wardrobe, available in two colours – Navy and Taupe. This cape is designed to endure the notoriously cold winds of the racecourse, but also elevate any outfit from jeans to dresses. Because we know that sometimes with style, practicality comes above everything else. We have designed the Sienna cape with arm slits creating easy movement and of course easy access to grab that second glass of champagne.

Keeping in the same category of staple outerwear pieces, if the Sienna cape is not for you, we think we have the next best thing – The Frances Trench. Crafted from a buttery soft suede, this trench coat is the perfect outerwear piece that requires no effort at all. With its classic trench coat look – Storm flap detailing and flattering princess seams - this coat can be styled either buttoned up or worn undone. If you are looking for a statement piece that is stylish, warm, and practical…this is the coat for you. Grab a pair of tall boots, some gloves and you are all set for a fuss free day at the races.

Moving on to a piece of outerwear that you may be more familiar with, and we predict that you may already have one of these in your wardrobe – The Elizabeth Gilet. This gilet is an undeniable must for the Cheltenham Festival, handcrafted from super-soft Toscana sheepskin, this gilet adds a regal (faux) fur element that we are predicting to be all over Cheltenham this year. This perfect layering piece is not a "one fits all" situation, as we have not one, not two, but four different colour ways to choose from in this gilet. As you may or may not have seen over the years, this gilet can be paired with any outfit. It can be paired with a dress, a jumper, a shirt and adds a touch of elegance to even the most casual of outfits.

Moving from outerwear to accessories, as you know first and foremost, we are a brand most recognised for our luxury footwear and accessories. Needless to say then, we have the perfect bag already sitting in our core range – The Mini Windsor. If you are an avid race day fan, you will not shy away on risking your chances on a bet or two at the races! But, because we know that taking a risk in clothing is not always an option, we have taken out all the guess work and designed you the perfect handbag to pair with any race day outfit. We would suggest our Tan Mini Windsor! This staple colour way is designed to go with all outfits – pair it with neutrals, navy’s and it can even be paired with that hint of forest green that is a must for St Paddy’s Day.

In terms of footwear, or boots in particular, we would like to think that we've got you covered. Firstly, we must talk about The Belgravias, a boot that sits proudly in our core range. The Cheltenham Festival is (in our esteemed opinion) an event where tall boots are a must and (to a lot of you) the only option. Our Belgravia boots are a perfect fit for this, designed with a stretch suede back panel and a memory foam footbed. What’s even better is that our Belgravia’s are now available in a flat and heeled option, both are a perfect choice for this event. If tall boots are not for you, we do also have an ankle alternative, The Belgravia Ankle. If you are struggling to find the perfect shoe to pair with your tailored trouser, the ankle Belgravia is the boot for you. With a block heel and a snug fit, this boot may not be traditional in length, but it will add a pop of elegance to any wide leg trousers.

If you have not yet found the perfect pieces for this year’s Cheltenham Festival, do not panic, we also have a race day edit on our website that includes the perfect pieces to choose from for this event find perfect Cheltenham Festival Outfit Ideas now!
