Calf Fits
We want to make sure our beautiful tall boots give you a snug fit around your leg, so we make many of them in three different calf width fittings. Each fit has a slightly different calf circumference, while the ankle and foot area of the boot remain the same.
The “Narrow fit” are 2-3cm smaller in the circumference of the calf.
The “Regular fit” is made to fit the average calf measurements of our customers.
The “Sporting fit” are 2-3cm larger in the circumference of the calf.
These imperfect Explorers may have inconsistent colour across the leather, with blemishes, lighter spots, marked or discoloured spots on the leather iteself, or apparent on the sole unit.
Typical issues:
Images represent a typical example of a seconds Explorer. Whilst every effort is made to reduce the inconsistencies, some boots will have different quality control issues, including:
- Wrinkled or puckered leather.
- Glue spots on the leather, zip or sole.
- Colour inconsistencies on the sole and leather.
- Stitching deviations along the zip, panels and read strap.
- Shorter gusset.
- Misaligned panels and/ or backstrap.
- Chalk and/ or Pencil Markings.
Details
Our award-winning Explorers but not as you know them! This imperfect pair of Explorers are part of our seconds collection - these water-resistant workhorses will have you putting the right foot forward. Easy to clean and durable enough for the demands of rural life, they only get better with age. Rely on this functional yet flattering water-resistant leather boot all whilst we’re giving you a decent discount because they didn’t quite pass muster during production. They may have small defects or minor imperfections, such as marked/ wrinkled leather, soles or zips, glue spots or chalk marks from production, imperfect stitching and slight colour blemishes. But rest assured they’re still just as beautiful, durable, safe and functional as every other Fairfax & Favor product (take a look at our “Why are these seconds” panel for more info).

When treating yourself to shoes from our Seconds collection, don’t forget that you can return them for a full refund or exchange within 30 days of receiving them (not within 180 days as for our standard returns policy). Simply send them back with full packaging and in the same condition you received them in and we’ll do the rest.

Leather Explorer
CARE RECOMMENDATIONS
Leather is a natural material and needs oil/moisture to keep it soft and supple. To stop it drying out, hardening and cracking, treat it at least once a month with Renapur Leather Balsalm. Dry, cracked, or dirty leather can prevent the waterproof Sympatex ® membrane from performing effectively. Use a sponge or brush and work the cream into both the toe creases and around the sole unit of your boots. A small time maintaining the outer leather will help your boots perform for many years.
Please note we recommend tightening the screw backs on the tassels once you receive your new boots, this will help ensure no lost tassels!

CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS
Not in the washing machine, please! Clean the leather with a neutral-coloured microfibre cloth and leave it to dry naturally. Remove mud and dirt immediately to stop moisture being drawn from the leather. Then re-apply the Renapur Leather Balsalm afterwards to reintroduce the required oils and moisture content.
Always read the directions of the care product, and test on an inconspicuous area first. Fairfax & Favor cannot be held responsible for improper use of care or cleaning products. For any concerns, please contact our Customer Service team.
MAINTENANCE & STORAGE
The Explorers are tested to British Industry standards for 8 hours to confirm no water ingress. This means that the boots are waterproof to the elements for up to 8 hours if they are maintained properly*.
However, like all leather performace boots with a full external zip, excessive exposure will cause water absorption into, and eventually through, the leather. After exposure to water, the boots must be dried out fully at natural room temperature, and not in direct heat or sunlight. If the boots are not fully dried out after use, the length of time that the boots will remain fully waterproof may be lessened. Similarly, exposure to salt water or animal waste / ammonia may cause degredation of the leather and the lining, and prevent it from performing effectively.
The Vibram® soles, are heavy duty and are tested to British Industry Standards for slip resistance, flex, and wear.
To care for your soles, remove stones and clean thoroughly after use.
Punctures to the sole, insole damage and nicks/tears in the lining can all affect the waterproof ability of the boot.
Store your beautiful boots away from heat, damp and direct sunlight. For Mid-Calf and Tall Boots, we recommend using Boot Trees to fill out the calf, maintain their original shape and prevent ankle creasing. Where possible, store your boots in their dustbags and blue box, and use a Signature Boot Bag for extra protection when travelling.
*Whilst the boots are tested to be waterproof in everyday conditions, puddles and wet grass etc. We do not recommend fully submerging or wading in them. For this type of activity the only true protection would be a rubber wellington.

Warranty
We take great pride in the craftsmanship of our products. Sourcing fine materials and manufacturing to the highest standards to deliver premium products that are fit for purpose.
In the eventuality that a manufacturing fault occurs, our seconds products come with a generous 6 month warranty from the date of purchase.
Normal wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse, and unauthorised repairs are not covered by the warranty.
