Get Set to Blossom this Spring with Fairfax & Favor’s Spring Guide
Spring has sprung, trees are blossoming and gardens are teetering on the verge of looking like a Cath Kidston duvet cover. The sun has finally reacquainted itself with our lives and with it comes the perfect opportunity for a little new season inspired narcissism. But, before you blow an entire month’s pay check on a fully-fledged re-brand, let us assist you with wardrobe updates to sleeken your style. We’ve incorporated handy colour palette tips, hair updates and make-up advice to help you waltz your way through the year’s most enchanting season.
This season, punchy prints and playful proportions take centre stage. Forget head-to-toe boorish pastels, tis’ the season to punctuate your outfit with a riot of colour. But rather than completely submitting yourself to the fickle whims of the fashion conveyor belt, add subtle nuances to the pieces you own for an artful nod to this seasons’ catwalk concepts.
March into April
Ladies: While spring sunshine can see the temperature surging into the late double digits, evenings can be cold, granting you the ultimate excuse to boot up. Switch up those tassels and experiment with some alternative hues. Try tangerine for a citrus bolt of colour or fuchsia for a playful touch.
The Boxing Hare
Men: Nothing announces spring time like the sight a mad march hare, (or a pair) engaging in a spot of spring time boxing. Wear the hare emblazoned over accessories to acknowledge the dawn of the new season. We think these socks from Cordings fit the bill.
The Silk Route
While no-one can deny the enduring charm of a silk Hermes scarf, Zara’s spring offerings ooze eighties charm and will be kinder to your bank balance. Borrow Belle’s style and loosely weave into a plait for Disney inspired insouciance or go-Bardot and wrap around the mane for Parisienne French-girl cool.
Notch up your Spring Style
Sport a flash of cobalt around your torso to enliven your outfit; our latest girth will add panache to your togs otherwise weary from a winter of hard graft. The Holkham belt’s braided design ensures a distinctive spring aesthetic, meanwhile those with a penchant for practicality will appreciate a pin that can be placed anywhere in the braid, comfortably accommodating a summer cider or two. For ladies, our latest leather piece to land is The Sennowe belt. In a light tan suede, the accessory is the perfect way to neutralise this season’s carnival of colour. The belt features Fairfax & Favor’s signature shield adding an accent of decadence, while it’s geometric formation nods to retro styling earning the Sennowe its fashion-forward credentials.
Every magpie should seek to switch up their jewellery as winter melts into spring. Davina Combe's, 'Palermo' collection, inspired by the postcard perfect coastlines of Sicily is reminiscent of a garden in bloom. The stones have an opacity that allows them to catch the light complementing skin that has been treated to a little TLC and granting you that covetable, ‘lit from within’ radiance.
SKINCARE SOS BY MAKE-UP ARTIST AND HAIR STYLIST ABI ROSE
Abi summarises the key skin trends for SS17, the importance of having lipstick to hand that lets lips, ‘pop,’ steps to safeguard against harmful UV rays and the trick to keeping hands soft and supple. Men, we’ve incorporated handy hair styling tips to keep those 90s boyband hair jibs at bay.
Go nude: the fashion trends that emerged for SS17 were all about beautiful skin and very natural makeup, and how to perfect the "no makeup makeup" look. For spring, try to use as minimal makeup product as possible, and let your natural glow come through by swapping foundations for BB creams. They're very moisturising, and give you a nice coverage whilst letting your skin shine through. If you're worried about blemishes, opt for the BB creams with a 'blur' effect to smooth everything out.
Hidden rays: it may not feel too warm yet, but when the sun starts coming out this spring it brings with it UV rays, which can damage our skin. Start using a moisturiser or makeup with an SPF in it, to protect your skin from ageing, wrinkles and UV rays. (Men, this applies to you too!)
Stay kissable: whether you're opting for a natural look, or wanting to use a colourful lipstick, lip balm is your best friend. It looks great on its own to emphasise your natural lip colour and keep your lips moisturised, but it is also key for prepping your lips for lipstick application. Apply lip balm at the start of your makeup routine to allow it to sink in, and your lips will be prepped for perfect lipstick application that will last longer and not dry you out.
Soft hands: changes in the weather can really affect our skin. When skin is dry, it can cause problems such as cracking and soreness, and it also ages us! Keep a little handbag sized hand cream with you this spring, and keep those hands soft and youthful - use the last bits on your elbows too, as this sneaky spot is always dry and can really give away your age!
Matte men: I love styling men's hair, there are so many great versatile products out there. For spring, opt for a matte wax to achieve a soft relaxed look; it's the best way to look like you just have naturally great hair, as there will be no shine to give you away! Remember to warm it up in your hands first to keep it pliable and avoid getting any lumps in your hair. Don't be afraid of a bit of hairspray too; a non-shiny medium hold spray will work great with a wax to keep your style in place. Trust me, it's not just for the ladies!
